Human rights activist and African Action Congress presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has raised the alarm over an alleged attack and abduction by armed men in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, claiming that his whereabouts were unknown.
Sowore disclosed this in separate posts on his verified X handle on Friday, alleging that the attackers were sponsored by the government.
In one of the posts, the activist wrote, “Armed thugs kidnap Sowore. His current location is unknown!”
He later alleged that he and members of his team sustained injuries after being attacked by armed men, accusing the Department of State Services of providing the assailants with information about their location.
“We have been brutally attacked and injured by well-armed government-sponsored thugs in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State. The DSS provided these attackers with our exact location, enabling them to carry out this vicious assault. We won’t back down! We have a country to liberate!” he stated.
The alleged incident occurred while Sowore was in Ekiti State for political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
His visit to the state had also featured in proceedings in his ongoing cyberbullying trial before the Federal High Court in Abuja, where he informed the court that he was away on campaign activities.
Following the development, the court adjourned the case until November 3.
However, as of the time of filing this report, the circumstances surrounding the alleged attack, the identities of the suspected assailants and Sowore’s whereabouts had yet to be independently established.
