A man, Sarafatu, has told the Grade A Customary Court sitting in Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, that his wife, Rashidat, became pregnant for another man while they were still living together.
Sarafatu made the allegation while responding to his wife’s petition seeking the dissolution of their marriage over alleged neglect, domestic violence, failure to provide for the family and threats to her life.
He alleged that his wife was involved in an extramarital relationship, claiming that he caught her with the man and reported the matter to her parents, who he said counselled her to end the relationship.
According to him, Rashidat allegedly continued the relationship despite the intervention of her family and eventually left their matrimonial home after becoming pregnant for her alleged lover.
The defendant, however, consented to the dissolution of the marriage, while pleading with the court to grant him custody of their children. He claimed that their mother could negatively influence them.
Earlier, Rashidat had told the court that her husband had made the marriage unbearable through alleged neglect, violence and failure to cater for her and their children.
She alleged that Sarafatu frequently failed to provide food for the family, leaving her to work extensively to meet their needs and those of the children.
Rashidat also accused her husband of turning disagreements into physical confrontations, alleging that his attacks left her with bruises.
She consequently asked the court to dissolve the marriage, grant her custody of the children and compel Sarafatu to provide for their welfare.
She further sought an order restraining him from allegedly threatening her or interfering with her private life.
