The Federal Government has confirmed an Ebola Virus Disease case in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, following the diagnosis of a woman who recently travelled to Nigeria from Uganda.
The infection was confirmed by laboratory tests on Tuesday, October 20, after the woman was taken to a private hospital in the FCT, where she had received medical care for several days.
The patient has since been placed in isolation and is receiving treatment, according to information released by the Federal Government.
The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, disclosed that surveillance teams had begun tracing individuals who might have come into contact with the infected woman.
He said 44 people had been identified for monitoring, including medical personnel, patients, caregivers and individuals connected to her journey to Nigeria.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention is working with health officials in the FCT to contain the infection, monitor possible exposures and prevent further transmission.
The authorities called on residents to observe basic hygiene practices, remain alert and promptly notify public health officials if they suspect exposure to the virus or develop concerning symptoms.
The NCDC also urged Nigerians seeking guidance or wishing to report suspected cases to contact its 24-hour toll-free line on 6232.
