Trailer crushes Akoko motorcyclist to death

A yet-to-be-identified motorcyclist was killed on Tuesday after he was reportedly knocked into the path of an oncoming trailer along Oyinmo Road in Ikare-Akoko, Akoko South-West Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The accident occurred amid traffic challenges on the road, with residents reportedly blocking parts of the route and allowing motorists to pass through slowly.

An eyewitness, Saheed, said the motorcyclist was first hit by another vehicle before he fell into the path of the approaching trailer.

According to him, the trailer subsequently ran over the victim, killing him in the process, while the driver of the vehicle allegedly responsible for the initial collision fled the scene.

“Another driver hit the motorcyclist and pushed him into the path of the oncoming trailer. The trailer then crushed him. The driver who caused the first collision fled, but some residents went after him,” Saheed said.

A resident, Akadri Ayodeji, blamed the prolonged road construction for the traffic situation and appealed to the government to prevail on the contractor handling the Ikare road project to speed up the work.

Ayodeji said completing the dualisation would help reduce pressure on the alternative route, adding that Oyinmo Road was originally designed as a smaller street and was not suitable for the volume of traffic currently using it.

He urged the authorities to urgently address the condition of the road and ensure the construction work was completed to prevent further accidents and ease movement in the area.
