The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a member of the Onelga Security and Advisory Committee, OSPAC, over the alleged killing of a man in Omoku, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect, identified as Felix Dibia, was accused of shooting Francis Chibuzor Ogwu after reportedly stopping him and another man along a road in the community on Thursday, October 1, 2026.
According to information gathered from the community, the two men were allegedly ordered to sit on the ground by the vigilante operative, but while Ogwu complied, the other man reportedly fled from the scene.
Dibia allegedly shot Ogwu after the other man escaped and subsequently dug a shallow grave where he was said to have concealed the victim’s remains before leaving the scene.
The incident reportedly came to public attention after information about the alleged killing and secret burial spread through the community the following day.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Monday, saying the suspect had been arrested.
Kaborlo said the firearm allegedly used in the incident had also been recovered, while detectives continued investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing.
The police spokesperson stressed that no OSPAC member or any other person had the legal authority to take another person’s life, assuring that the investigation would be conducted in accordance with the law and that due process would be followed.
