No fewer than 30 residents have been arrested in Ondo State for allegedly flouting environmental sanitation regulations during the monthly exercise conducted by the state government.
The arrests were made on Saturday by environmental health officers monitoring compliance across the state as part of efforts to enforce sanitation laws and maintain a cleaner environment.
The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Environmental Health and Safety, Samuel Bolala, disclosed this while speaking with journalists in Akure, the state capital.
Bolala said the arrested persons would be prosecuted before the state’s Special Environmental Court, stressing that the government would not tolerate violations of environmental regulations.
He said the exercise was designed to strengthen public compliance with sanitation standards and prevent environmental hazards that could threaten the health and safety of residents.
The governor’s aide urged residents to adopt proper waste disposal habits and take responsibility for keeping their homes, markets, streets and other public spaces clean.
He also called for stronger cooperation among environmental health officers, waste management agencies and members of the public, noting that sustainable environmental cleanliness could only be achieved through collective efforts.
Bolala said the initiative was in line with Aiyedatiwa’s OUR EASE agenda, which prioritises the welfare of residents through improved environmental health, safety and general living conditions.
