Residents now call me ‘Okpe’s baby’ — Edo Gov reveals

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, says residents have given him a new nickname, ‘Okpe’s baby’, replacing his former sobriquet, ‘Akpako Rescue’, which he said reflects the growing acceptance of his administration.

The governor disclosed this during a live broadcast on ITV and Radio on Saturday, recounting how residents received him warmly while he walked along Sapele Road.

According to him, the positive reactions from residents have brought him joy, particularly as he can now move freely in public without facing hostility.

“I was on Sapele Road yesterday. They have even changed my name from Akpako Rescue to Okpe’s baby. These things give me joy because I walk freely on the street,” he said.

Okpebholo also expressed confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s administration, arguing that the economic policies introduced by the Federal Government were beginning to produce positive results.

He said changes in the foreign exchange market and the gradual appreciation of the naira were indications that the reforms were having an impact on the economy.

The governor urged Nigerians, particularly business owners and consumers, to assess the economic situation by comparing current prices and exchange rates with what obtained before Tinubu assumed office.

He added that the removal of the petrol subsidy was another major decision by the President, insisting that the policy had ended a system through which a few individuals allegedly cornered public resources for personal benefit.
