The Democratic Leadership Alliance has suspended all campaign activities and public appearances linked to its 2027 presidential candidate, Moses Adebisi, following allegations surrounding a personal financial transaction involving an alleged dud cheque.
The party also announced that it had referred the matter to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Inspector-General of Police for investigation, while initiating disciplinary proceedings against the candidate.
The decision was disclosed in a statement issued by the party’s National Chairman and Leader, Barrister Samuel Memeh, who said the suspension would remain in force pending the outcome of the investigations and the party’s internal disciplinary process.
Memeh said the party’s National Disciplinary Committee had invited Adebisi to appear before it on August 30, 2026, following a letter dated August 29. He added that the committee subsequently directed the suspension of all campaign-related activities and public appearances associated with the candidate.
The party maintained that it would not accept responsibility for financial commitments or transactions undertaken by individuals without its authorisation, insisting that Adebisi must personally answer for his obligations. It also warned members and campaign organisations against presenting him as its officially endorsed presidential candidate.
The DLA further cautioned that candidates who continued to use Adebisi’s photographs on campaign posters, banners, billboards and other publicity materials in ways suggesting the party’s endorsement could face disciplinary sanctions. It said the National Campaign Council would henceforth coordinate campaign activities under the supervision of the National Working Committee and party leadership.
Despite the development, the party urged Nigerians to support its candidates contesting governorship, National Assembly and state assembly elections in 2027. It also called on President Bola Tinubu’s administration to improve security, ensure transparency in public spending and strengthen protection for farmers and rural communities.
The party said it would determine its next political steps after receiving the disciplinary committee’s recommendations, adding that it reserved the right to make further decisions regarding its participation in the 2027 presidential election.
