The NYSC Ondo State Coordinator, Mrs. Victoria Nnenna Ani has reiterated the incontrovertible fact that NYSC Scheme is a youth development organisation committed to moulding graduate youths mobilised for national service into responsible citizens.
The State Coordinator asserted this fact when she met with Heads of Collaborating Agencies selected by their various institutions to complement the NYSC staff during the forthcoming 2021 Batch 'C' (Stream II) orientation course.
Mrs. Ani who disclosed that NYSC as a Federal Government agency is widely known for her zero tolerance for any act of indiscipline said that the Scheme has never been a place to breed societal vices.
"Members of the respected security agencies and paramilitary organisations, I need not tell you again what your assignment would be at the camp but for the benefit of those who are just joining us on this routine but very important and challenging assignments, you need to enforce discipline on all the prospective corps members and ensure strict compliance and adherence all the time".
"We need to raise the bar of discipline to the highest level each time we assemble graduate youths from all walks of life because they are coming from the society that is filled with several ills and social vices. It is our statutory responsibility to drum it into their ears that absolute discipline is our watchword in NYSC" she said.
The NYSC Ondo State boss affirmed that the new normal situation we found ourselves as a result of COVID -19 should be utilised to the maximum whereby no one should compromise his/her health status.
"In addition, we all know the attendant risks and stress associated with travelling long journeys on our roads and these may have effects on the prospective corps members when they arrive camp. To adapt to changes that are associated with regimented nature at the camp may not be easy and I want to implore you to let us welcome them with love and show them that they have parents, brothers and sisters in us. Also, we should all be medical experts and counsellors on health and medical issues in order to have seamless orientation course".
"We all know the obstinate nature of our youths and some of them that may be sick, rather than present themselves at the Camp Clinic for observation and monitoring, will engage in hide and seek game just to participate actively in all the programmes and activities. When you accost such prospective corps members, kindly notify the camp management immediately".
She said that all camp officials should be Enforcement vanguards and monitor the level of compliance to the protocols of COVID -19 as it relates to proper wearing of face mask, observance of both physical and social distancing, frequent application of alcohol based hand sanitiser and washing of hands with liquid soap under running clean water at intervals.
The Coordinator reminded the attendees of the meeting the premium the Scheme placed on the lives and properties of corps members.
"I wish to remind you that the Director General of this noble Scheme in his keynote address during the flag off of 2021 NYSC Corps Employers Workshop two days ago urged all corps employers and critical stakeholders in which your organisation is undoubtedly a key factor, to pay particular attention to the security of corps members throughout the period of the service year" she said.
Additionally, the State Coordinator said that as a measure of security, all camp officials who are not members of the security agencies are mandated to wear name tags or identification cards as the case may be while the prospective corps members are to wear code cards pending the time their NYSC identification cards would be ready".
Conclusively, the administrator vested with the power to protect, mould, nurture and make the graduate youths patriotic citizens says that ' we are on ground because Federal Government has mobilised and deployed these vibrant young men and women to serve their fatherland and I enjoin you to ensure that their welfare is our collective priority'.
