As tributes pour in to mark the 66th birthday of former Delta State Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, one of the most heartfelt came from the state’s Commissioner for Oil and Gas, Hon. Chief Peter Okagbare Uviejitobor, who described the celebrant as a political mentor, father figure, and an enduring symbol of purpose-driven leadership.
Speaking at a press briefing in Warri, Uviejitobor reflected on his personal and political journey with the former governor, noting that their first meeting—after he won his seat in the Delta State House of Assembly—marked a turning point in his life.
“Meeting Dr. Okowa was more than a coincidence; it was a divine connection,” the commissioner said. “From the very beginning, he embraced me with humility and warmth. Since then, he has mentored me with unmatched patience and clarity of vision.”
Uviejitobor said Dr. Okowa’s mentorship extends beyond politics, shaping his values and approach to leadership.
“He teaches you to lead with your heart, to serve selflessly, and to prioritize people over ambition. His loyalty, humility, and resilience have deeply influenced my public service journey.”
He praised Dr. Okowa’s inclusive leadership style during his time as governor, highlighting achievements in infrastructure, youth empowerment, and healthcare.
He described the Delta Contributory Health Scheme as one of Okowa’s most impactful legacies, adding that the former governor’s tenure brought unprecedented development and stability to the state.
“Dr. Okowa is not just a state leader; he is a nation-builder,” Uviejitobor added, referencing his role as PDP’s Vice Presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections.
“His national recognition is a reflection of his capacity, intellect, and vision for a better Nigeria.”
Beyond governance, the commissioner recalled moments of personal guidance, saying, “He has always been there — a father in tough times and a source of wisdom during political storms.”
In celebration of Dr. Okowa’s birthday, Uviejitobor announced plans for a thanksgiving service and community empowerment programs in his constituency, aimed at reflecting the former governor’s passion for giving back.
“Dr. Okowa’s life is a testimony to grace, grit, and greatness,” he said. “I am proud to be his political son and grateful for the opportunity to learn from a true statesman.”
The commissioner concluded by calling on young leaders to emulate Okowa’s legacy of service, integrity, and empathy, emphasizing that Nigeria needs more leaders like him to chart a path toward sustainable development.
