Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called for a comprehensive investigation into the credentials of President Bola Tinubu and members of his cabinet, accusing the administration of turning forgery into state policy.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday, Atiku said the recent resignation of the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, exposed what he described as a deep moral crisis within the Tinubu administration.
He alleged that Nnaji’s resignation was being presented as voluntary to cover up an embarrassing scandal, adding that the minister should have been “summarily dismissed and prosecuted for deceit and falsification.”
According to him, the government’s handling of the matter reflected a “forgery-ridden character,” saying it was another sign that the administration was “an assembly of forgers, impostors, and morally bankrupt individuals masquerading as public servants.”
Atiku faulted the Department of State Services (DSS) for clearing Nnaji for ministerial appointment despite alleged discrepancies in his records. He said the same DSS that screened out former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, for “security concerns” failed in its duty of due diligence in Nnaji’s case.
He further alleged that the controversy surrounding Nnaji’s credentials was consistent with what he described as “a pattern of deceit” traceable to President Tinubu himself, recalling the long-running disputes over the President’s academic background and identity.
Atiku maintained that Tinubu’s alleged history of forgery and perjury had “institutionalized falsehood in public service,” urging Nigerians to demand an independent and transparent probe into the credentials of all federal cabinet members, beginning with the President.
He warned that Nigeria risked sinking deeper into “moral decay, economic ruin, and global embarrassment” if the issue of integrity in public office was not urgently addressed.
