The Ondo State Government has concluded plans to begin the installation of 50,000 prepaid meters across the state in the first phase of its O’Datiwa Mass Metering Scheme.
Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Engr. (Dr.) Johnson Alabi, who disclosed this, said the initiative would ensure reliable and transparent access to electricity while ending estimated billing in the state.
According to him, the programme, to be executed through the Ondo State Power Company (OSPC), will begin with a pilot phase this month, followed by a full rollout in November 2025.
“With this programme, every citizen and business will have access to prepaid meters that guarantee fairness, transparency, and efficiency,” the Commissioner said.
He noted that the OSPC, in collaboration with accredited Meter Asset Providers (MAPs), will supervise the deployment to ensure high quality and seamless operation.
Alabi added that the metering scheme would empower consumers, strengthen the state’s electricity sector, and boost investor confidence and revenue assurance for service providers.
He reaffirmed Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s commitment to improving power supply across Ondo State and urged residents to support the scheme, describing it as a foundation for lasting electricity reforms and better service delivery.
