The Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, CFR, Ojaja II, on Sunday conferred the chieftaincy title of Yeye Bobajiro Oodua on Dr. Afolashade Shona in recognition of her humanitarian contributions and dedication to the welfare of the less privileged.
The colourful ceremony, which took place at the Ile Oodua Palace in Ile-Ife, Osun State, attracted an array of dignitaries, including traditional rulers, business leaders, Nollywood stars, and other prominent Nigerians from within and outside the country.
The palace courtyard was filled with glamour and cultural splendour as drummers, dancers, and cultural troupes thrilled guests in celebration of the new titleholder.
Speaking at the event, the Ooni, who also serves as Co-Chairman of the National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria (NCTRN), described Dr. Shona as a compassionate and selfless woman whose efforts toward uplifting others have made a lasting impact.
“This distinguished woman has truly demonstrated an exceptional commitment to humanity. Her consistent efforts towards the welfare of the less privileged have not gone unnoticed. I have watched her works with admiration, the compassion, the generosity, and the genuine love she extends to those in need.
“In recognition of her selfless service and positive impact on society, I deemed it fit to honour her with this chieftaincy title. It is my prayer that this recognition will further inspire her to continue her good works. Those whose lives you have touched and lifted are the true testimonies of your kindness. You are a shining example of womanhood and leadership. May the Almighty Olodumare continue to bless you, strengthen you, and multiply your grace," Ooni Ogunwusi said.
In her response, Dr. Shona expressed deep gratitude to the Ooni for the honour and pledged to sustain her commitment to humanitarian service while promoting peace, unity, and empowerment across communities.
