The Super Eagles on Tuesday staged a boycott of training in protest over bonuses they claim have remained unpaid for the past two years.
According to SCORENigeria, the players informed head coach Eric Chelle that they would not train unless the outstanding bonuses were settled.
The unpaid bonuses reportedly cover both the qualifying campaigns for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the 2026 World Cup.
The development comes just a day after the national team held its first training session in Rabat, Morocco, ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs. Their second session is scheduled for later tonight.
A total of 23 players are currently in camp at the team’s Rive Hotel base in Rabat.
Efforts to resolve the impasse are reportedly ongoing, as officials and team management explore ways to address the players’ grievances before the crucial playoff matches.
Observers have expressed concern that the standoff could affect team morale and preparation ahead of the decisive games that will determine Nigeria’s qualification for the 2026 World Cup.
