Residents of Erusu Akoko in Akoko North-East Local Government Area of Ondo State have heaved a sigh of relief following the restoration of electricity supply after nearly three months of total blackout, facilitated by the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
The community had been without power after its transformer developed a fault, throwing homes and businesses into darkness and crippling economic and social activities.
Community leaders said repeated efforts to fix the problem proved abortive before the minister’s intervention.
Findings revealed that Tunji-Ojo, fondly called BTO, deployed his personal resources and influence to ensure the replacement and repair of the faulty transformer, leading to the full restoration of electricity supply to the town.
The traditional ruler of the community, the Osunla of Erusu Akoko, Oba Sunday Mogaji (Imole I), praised the minister for the timely intervention, describing it as people-oriented and impactful.
He said the restoration had brought relief to residents, particularly artisans, traders and students who bore the brunt of the prolonged blackout.
Speaking on behalf of the council of chiefs and the people of the town, the monarch offered prayers for the minister, noting that the community would not forget the gesture.
Residents also lauded Tunji-Ojo, describing him as a compassionate leader who consistently identifies with the plight of his people and responds promptly to their needs.
With electricity supply restored, commercial and social activities are gradually returning to normal in Erusu Akoko, ending weeks of hardship for the community.
