Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has donated a brand new bus to the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ondo State Council, to ease coverage of government activities across the state.
The donation was announced on Saturday at a media stakeholders’ dinner held at the Government House in Akure.
The gesture followed a request by the Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Comrade Tosin Ajuwon, who drew the governor’s attention to the mobility challenges faced by correspondents covering official assignments across Ondo State.
Ajuwon commended the governor for development projects being implemented under the OUR EASE Agenda, noting that journalists often travel long distances under difficult conditions to report government activities. “Your Excellency, the Correspondents’ Chapel plays a critical role in projecting Ondo State to the nation. However, mobility has remained a major challenge for our members. An official bus will greatly enhance our efficiency, safety and prompt reportage,” he said.
Responding, Aiyedatiwa described the media as a vital partner in governance, stressing that responsible journalism was essential for democracy, transparency and accountability.
He said government policies and programmes could not reach the grassroots without the media, adding that journalists served as a bridge between the government and the people.
The governor immediately approved the donation, directing that a brand new bus be released to the Correspondents’ Chapel. “I have listened to your request, we have three of the buses, two has been given out, the remaining one, you have my approval for it. This is our own way of supporting the media to do their job better,” Aiyedatiwa declared.
The Chairman of the Ondo State NUJ Council, Prince Leke Adegbite, later praised the governor’s media-friendly disposition and highlighted welfare challenges affecting journalists in the state, particularly staff of Owena Press and the Ministry of Information and Orientation.
