Idogun crisis: Panel begins sitting as 58 memoranda submitted

The Ondo State Administrative Panel of Inquiry investigating the crisis that rocked Idogun community in Ose Local Government Area has formally begun its hearings, with 58 memoranda already submitted for consideration.

Findings by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) indicate that the unrest, which occurred on October 3, 2025, allegedly involved a group of youths who attacked the community’s monarch, Oba Moses Bakare, as well as his wife and their son, Victor.

Speaking during the panel’s inaugural sitting held on Monday in Akure, the Chairman, Mr Idowu Mafimisebi, appealed to all individuals and groups connected with the dispute to engage constructively with the inquiry in the interest of justice and peace.

He explained that the panel’s mandate would run for six weeks, adding that the initial four weeks had been devoted to procedural and administrative arrangements.

Mafimisebi assured stakeholders that the panel would operate without bias, insisting that no party would be permitted to dominate or undermine the process.

“Our intention is that we will bring to book whoever is found wanting in all the Shenanigans that led to the crisis at Idogun and of course we will not care whose ox is gored.

“Anybody caught capable will be dealt with accordingly and we will make our recommendations to the government and we urge sons and daughters of the community to be assured that the panel’s recommendations after its proceedings would bring lasting peace to the community,” he said.

The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr Idowu Ajanaku, described the establishment of the panel as a timely intervention by the state government to address grievances and prevent further escalation of tensions in the community.

Ajanaku, who hails from Idogun, urged the panel to scrutinise all submissions with impartiality, stressing that justice must guide the outcome.

He also called on indigenes of the community to close ranks and work together to foster unity and sustainable development.
