The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on Tuesday extended scholarships, cash grants and work tools to widows and orphans in Okeagbe Akoko, Ondo State, as part of efforts to support vulnerable groups at the grassroots.
The outreach, which attracted beneficiaries from different communities, saw several orphans awarded educational scholarships, while widows received financial assistance and equipment to boost small-scale businesses.
Represented by Hon. Fafunmilade Adetilewa, the minister said the initiative was aimed at easing the burden on the less privileged and reinforcing the government’s commitment to social welfare and inclusive development.
He urged citizens to remain steadfast in prayers and support for leaders at all levels, stressing the importance of collective responsibility in nation-building.
“I urge us to always intercede on behalf of our state, the Sunshine State, and Nigeria at large. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu particularly needs our prayers and support,” he said.
As part of the empowerment package, beneficiaries were given cash support, industrial machines and other business materials to enable widows become economically independent and sustain their families.
Tunji-Ojo said the President had made notable strides in advancing the Renewed Hope agenda within three years, adding that Nigerians should continue to support the administration and participate actively in the democratic process ahead of 2027.
Speaking at the event, the minister’s mother, Madam Yinka Tunji-Ojo, thanked the people for their consistent support for her son, assuring them of his continued commitment to grassroots engagement and care for the less privileged.
Also, the wife of the Olubaka of Oka Akoko, Oba (Dr.) Yusuf Adebori Adeleye, OON, encouraged residents to sustain prayers for the minister, noting that such support would further inspire him to do more for the people.
Traditional rulers at the programme included the Owa of Ogbagi Akoko, Oba Victor Adetona, and the Ajana of Afa, Okeagbe Akoko, Oba Mofolorunso Adegboyega Arasanyin.
Some beneficiaries described the intervention as timely, expressing appreciation for the scholarships and empowerment items, which they said would positively impact their lives and livelihoods.
