Man kills Europe-based childhood friend in Edo

The Edo State Police Command has arrested one Amadin William for allegedly killing his childhood friend, Eghosa Osarietinomwan, a Europe-based Nigerian, in Oben community, Orhionmwon Local Government Area of the state.

The command’s spokesperson, ASP Eno Ikoedem, disclosed this to journalists on Sunday in Benin City.

Ikoedem also confirmed that two other persons were arrested in connection with a reprisal attack that followed the killing, during which angry youths reportedly set the suspect’s house ablaze.

According to the police, the deceased sustained deep machete cuts to the neck after stepping out to ease himself during a house-warming celebration.

“He was rushed to the hospital for treatment, where he was confirmed dead.

“The suspect, after committing the crime, absconded and went into hiding but was tracked and arrested on December 27.

“Meanwhile, two other persons have been arrested in connection with the arson that followed the incident,” she said.

DAILY POST gathered that the incident occurred on December 22, 2025, during a house-warming ceremony in Oben community.

The suspect was said to have lured the victim to a bush path, where he allegedly attacked him with a machete before fleeing the area.

It was further learnt that Osarietinomwan had returned from Europe to celebrate the Yuletide with his family before he was killed.

Following the incident, youths in the community reportedly attacked the suspect’s property, setting his house on fire.
