The All Progressives Congress has disqualified its former National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore, alongside six other aspirants from taking part in the party’s governorship primary in Osun State.
The Screening Committee, led by Chief Obinna Uzoh, concluded its work on December 4 at Amor Hotel in Katampe, Abuja, and based its decision on the aspirants’ failure to meet key nomination requirements.
According to the committee, the affected aspirants Sen. Iyiola Omisore, Babatunde Haketer Oralusi, Oyedotun Babayemi, Dr Akin Ogunbiyi, Benedict Alabi, Adegoke Rasheed Okiki, and Senator Babajide Omoworare, did not provide the compulsory evidence of sponsorship by five fully registered and financially up-to-date party members from each Local Government Area in the state, as mandated by the APC Constitution and its guidelines.
Only two aspirants, Mulikat Abiola Jimoh and Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, were cleared to proceed to the primary.
The committee said the exercise followed a petition by the Osun APC Renewal Group, which raised concerns over irregularities in the nomination process, prompting the panel to subject all nine aspirants to equal scrutiny.
The development has stirred tension within the state chapter of the party, with associates of the disqualified aspirants describing the outcome as politically driven and promising to challenge it.
Party sources said the aspirants have begun holding emergency meetings and are preparing to submit formal appeals to the APC National Working Committee, ahead of the December 13 primary that will produce a challenger to Governor Ademola Adeleke in the 2026 poll.
