A couple abducted from their residence in Ilu Abo, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, have regained their freedom after four days in captivity.
The victims, identified as Jamiu Olawale and his wife, were reportedly kidnapped last Friday shortly after returning home from work.
A family source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, disclosed on Wednesday that the couple was released on Tuesday night after a ransom of N5m was paid to their abductors.
“Jamiu and his wife were freed by their captors on Tuesday night and have since reunited with members of their family,” the source said.
It was gathered that the kidnappers initially demanded N40m before reducing the amount to N12m during negotiations, and eventually accepted N5m for the couple’s release.
The incident is the latest in a series of abductions reported in parts of the state in recent times.
