A broadcaster and Founder of Jagaban Communications, Mr Samuel Adenitan, has cautioned President Bola Tinubu on forming alliances with foreign countries in tackling insecurity in Nigeria.
Adenitan gave the advice at the 2026 Ramadan lecture organised by Jagaban TV, themed: “Encouraging Ethical Governance and Personal Accountability in Both Public and Private Sectors,” on Sunday in Ibadan.
The Executive Director of Jagaban Communications said that although international alliances in tackling Nigeria’s insecurity are important, the country’s sovereignty must remain paramount.
According to him, global powers naturally pursue their national interests, and President Tinubu must be strategic and guided in his engagements with foreign countries in addressing Nigeria’s insecurity.
“Nigeria must engage global powers strategically and carefully, particularly in areas of security cooperation and crime prevention,” he said.
The broadcaster also called on United States President, Donald Trump, to exercise great caution in interfering in the internal affairs of other nations in the pursuit of global influence and dominance.
Adenitan urged President Tinubu to be a listening leader and not see those criticising his government as enemies, but rather use the criticism to improve his leadership style and policies.
“Criticism is not an attack; it is a mechanism of accountability.
“Constructive criticism, even from within one’s own political party, is healthy for governance.
“It acts as a system of checks and balances.
A government that listens grows stronger. A leader who listens becomes wiser,” he said.
Adenitan further urged Nigerian leaders to integrate digital voting transmission and technology into the country’s electoral processes to improve transparency, reduce manipulation, and minimise human interference, among other benefits.
In his lecture, the Founder of Safaudeen Islamic Organisation, Prof. Sabit Olagoke, called on Nigerians to thoroughly examine the background of those they elect as leaders.
Olagoke said Nigerians often elect individuals they know little about, and such individuals eventually reveal their true character when they attain power.
Olagoke, who spoke on the topic “Integrity and Leadership: Lessons from the Prophets,” said that the process used in selecting leaders in Nigeria is faulty, contributing to the challenges facing the country.
“Our process of selecting leaders is fundamentally faulty.
“Until we revisit and reform this process, we may never be able to produce leaders who can effectively manage and sustain democracy in Nigeria," Olagoke said.
