The National Association of Akungba Students (NAAS), Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) Chapter, has successfully organised a three-day programme featuring sports, cultural engagement and social bonding, aimed at promoting unity among students and strengthening ties with the host community.
The event, held under the leadership of the association’s President, Hon. Comr. Adedayo Yetunde Stella, popularly known as Joyfulheart, attracted students, alumni and key stakeholders.
The programme kicked off on Day One with a novelty football match and the official unveiling of the association’s jersey. The match, which pitted undergraduate students against graduates, showcased sportsmanship, love and unity, as both teams displayed impressive skills and determination.
Before the commencement of the match, the newly designed NAAS jersey was unveiled by Hon. Lawal Oladele, also known as Holynation, alongside the NAAS AAUA Chapter President and other stakeholders of the association.
The highly competitive encounter ended in a dramatic 6–6 draw, with neither side willing to concede defeat. To appreciate the commitment and discipline displayed by the players, the leadership of the association presented books and writing materials to participants at the end of the match.
Day Two featured a courtesy visit to the palace of the Alale of Akungba, His Royal Majesty, Oba Isiaka Oseni Adu Odundun Asodedero I (JP). The visit underscored the importance of cultural heritage and peaceful coexistence between students and their host community.
During the interaction, the monarch narrated the history of Akungba, explaining that Abe, one of the prominent streets in Ibaka, was among the earliest settlements in the town. He also highlighted the composition of Akungba quarters, noting that Ogbonale consists of Ibaka, Ilale and Akua, while Ogbonslakun comprises Okusa, Igbelu, Akunmi, Okele and Araromi.
The royal father urged students to remain proud ambassadors of their community and to always remember their roots, even when far from home.
The programme culminated on Day Three with a colourful NAAS picnic, which featured games, music, food and refreshments. The picnic provided a relaxed atmosphere for students to bond and reaffirm the spirit of family and unity within the association.
The leadership of the NAAS AAUA Chapter expressed appreciation to the Alale of Akungba, HRM Oba Isiaka Oseni Adu Odundun Asodedero I (JP), and the association’s Patroness, Amb. Bisayo Busari-Akinnadeju, for their support and contributions to the success of the programme.
The association also commended NAAS members, graduates and stakeholders for their continued commitment to the growth and progress of the union.
“Together, we remain one family, united in purpose and vision,” the leadership stated.
