The Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers in Ondo State, Comrade Odudu Emmanuel Ademola, has denied allegations linking him to the assault on the state chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Ade Adetimehin, and other party members at the secretariat in Akure.
In a statement released on Wednesday by the union’s media office, Odudu described as untrue claims that he orchestrated the disruption of the APC stakeholders’ meeting held on February 17.
He explained that he was present at the gathering in his capacity as a party stakeholder and met supporters of various aspirants locked in a heated disagreement, stressing that the incident was strictly an internal party issue with no connection to the transport union.
The labour leader insisted that neither he nor any official of the union participated in the violence, noting that he had instead moved to calm frayed nerves before security agencies intervened.
He said operatives of the police, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and the Department of State Services subsequently restored order at the venue.
Odudu, however, condemned the attack on Adetimehin and other stakeholders, describing the development as unfortunate and unacceptable.
He urged the public to verify sensitive information before circulating it, warning that unsubstantiated reports could misinform citizens and heighten tension.
