The Owo Youth General Assembly has dissociated itself from a purported endorsement of a senatorial aspirant in Ondo North, Chief Alex Ajipe, describing the move as unauthorised and misleading.
The group made the clarification in a statement signed by its President, Mr Bash Adeola, and the Secretary General, Comrade Olalekan Ebenezer, following the circulation of a viral video showing one Obadaye Temidayo chanting solidarity songs with the aspirant.
According to the youth body, the individual featured in the video does not represent the collective position of youths in Owo Kingdom and acted without the mandate or consent of the assembly.
The group said it remained apolitical and would not align with any aspirant at a time when political activities were still at an early stage, warning that such actions could fuel tension and division among youths.
It stressed that the assembly was committed to promoting peace, equity and fairness, particularly in a volatile political climate where individuals were entitled to support candidates of their choice without imposing such preferences on others.
The Owo Youth General Assembly further urged members of the public to disregard the alleged endorsement, insisting that it would resist any attempt by individuals or groups to sow disunity among recognised youth bodies in the community.
