The Federal High Court in Akure, Ondo State, has restrained the All Progressives Congress from conducting its planned state congress earlier scheduled for Tuesday.
The order was issued by Justice Toyin Bolaji Adegoke, who directed the Independent National Electoral Commission and the APC to suspend all arrangements for the exercise pending further proceedings.
The party’s state chapter had announced March 3 as the date for the congress through a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Alex Kalejaye, stating that the exercise followed approval from the party’s National Working Committee.
According to the statement, statutory delegates, party leaders and key stakeholders were invited to participate in the congress as part of the APC’s internal electoral process.
The court’s decision followed an ex parte application filed by Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Adedayo Adedeji, representing aggrieved members of the party led by Lawrence Adebayo and thousands of other members.
In the ruling, the judge granted an interim injunction preventing INEC and the APC, including their officials and agents, from recognising or acting on the ward and local government congresses reportedly held on February 18 and 21, 2026, as well as the proposed state congress.
Justice Adegoke further ordered all parties to maintain the existing situation pending the hearing of the motion on notice and fixed March 26 for the commencement of proceedings in the substantive suit.
