A member of the House of Representatives Nigeria, Muhammad Danjuma Hassan, is dead.
Hassan, who represented Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency of Kano State, reportedly passed away on Friday evening after a prolonged illness.
The spokesman for the House, Akin Rotimi, confirmed the development in a statement, describing the late lawmaker’s death as a significant loss to the legislature and the nation.
According to him, the 66-year-old politician was elected in 2023 on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party and served as the Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Judiciary.
Rotimi noted that the deceased had a distinguished career in legislative practice and public administration prior to his election into the National Assembly.
He said Hassan rose through the ranks within the parliamentary bureaucracy to the position of Permanent Secretary before venturing into partisan politics.
“He made far-reaching contributions to legislative development and constitutional processes, with several laws bearing his imprint,” the statement read in part.
The House spokesman added that the late lawmaker was known for his diligence, professionalism, and commitment to strengthening the nation’s justice system.
He also served on several committees, including Public Petitions, Aviation, Solid Minerals, Constitution Review, and Treaties, Protocols and Agreements.
Rotimi stated that across committee assignments and plenary sessions, Hassan was widely respected for his experience, calm disposition, and dedication to service.
Meanwhile, the Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, extended condolences to the family of the deceased, his constituents, and the government and people of Kano State.
He said the late lawmaker’s contributions to national development would be remembered.
Hassan is expected to be buried on Saturday in accordance with Islamic rites.
