The Nigerian community in the United Kingdom has been plunged into grief following the sudden death of a Nigerian man, identified simply as Herbert, who reportedly passed away on the same day his father was buried in Nigeria.
The sad development was disclosed by a community leader, popularly known as the Oluomo of Derby, who described the incident as deeply painful and urged support for the bereaved family.
He said in a statement that the community had lost a member under heartbreaking circumstances, noting that Herbert died on the very day his late father was laid to rest back home.
Herbert, who lived in Thornaby, United Kingdom, was said to have died in his sleep. He was described by associates as a gentle and committed family man, devoted to his wife and three children.
Sources within the community revealed that he had been dealing with emotional and financial pressure following his father’s death in Nigeria. Despite being unable to travel for the burial, he reportedly contributed funds to ensure a proper funeral.
The situation took a more tragic turn when his lifeless body was discovered at home by his children in the absence of their mother.
His death has left his wife with the responsibility of caring for their three young children, alongside the financial challenges of funeral arrangements and plans to return his remains to Nigeria.
In response, members of the Nigerian community in the UK have initiated a fundraising effort to assist the family with burial expenses and other pressing needs.
The Oluomo of Derby called for collective support, urging Nigerians and well-wishers to stand by the grieving family, stressing that every contribution would make a difference in their time of need.
