The Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes has faulted former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, over his claim of an alleged plan to remove the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja.

Fayose had, in a post on his X handle, alleged that Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, was plotting the monarch’s removal, citing a purported plan to issue a query over his absence at a recent coronation of high chiefs, among other allegations.

Reacting in a statement issued in Ibadan on Sunday, the CCII described the claim as baseless and capable of inciting tension in the ancient city.

The council’s President-General, Ajeniyi Ajewole, in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Kola Olomide, said Fayose’s remarks were misleading and an attempt to drag traditional institutions into partisan politics.

He warned that such comments could disrupt the peace of Ibadanland, stressing that issues concerning the Olubadan stool are governed by long-standing traditions and due process.

“Ibadanland will not tolerate attempts to destabilise its peace through careless political utterances. The allegation lacks credibility and should be disregarded,” the statement read.

Ajewole cautioned Fayose against making unverified claims capable of creating distrust among residents, urging him to refrain from interfering in matters outside his domain.

He further maintained that Governor Makinde, as an indigene, would not act in a manner that undermines the revered traditional institution.

Describing Fayose’s intervention as unwarranted, the CCII insisted that the former governor had no stake in the political or traditional affairs of Ibadanland.

The council also called on political actors nationwide to exercise restraint in their public comments to avoid heating up the polity.

Meanwhile, a media aide to the Olubadan, Adeola Oloko, dismissed the allegation, stating that there was no rift between the monarch and the state government.

Similarly, the Oyo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, said the government had neither considered nor discussed any plan to remove the traditional ruler.
