The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has arrested two candidates and a parent for allegedly falsifying 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination results using artificial intelligence and other electronic tools.
The board disclosed this on Friday while announcing the release of results for 632,788 candidates who sat the examination on Thursday, April 16.
In a statement by its spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, JAMB said the suspects manipulated official SMS result notifications in an attempt to alter scores and deceive members of the public, including parents and guardians.
He confirmed that the trio is currently in custody over the alleged offence.
“Two candidates and one parent are in custody for engaging in result falsification using AI and other electronic means,” the statement read.
Benjamin described the act as a grave criminal offence, stressing that the board would ensure that all those involved face the full weight of the law.
He also warned candidates against tampering with messages received from JAMB’s official result-checking platforms, 55019 and 66019.
According to him, candidates who participated in Thursday’s examination can check their results by sending ‘UTMERESULT’ via SMS to either of the designated numbers, using the phone number linked to their registration.
He added that the printing of official result slips would commence at a later date.
The 2026 UTME, which began on April 16, is expected to end on April 22, with results to be released in batches as the exercise progresses nationwide.
