The Peoples Democratic Party has cleared former President Goodluck Jonathan to participate in its forthcoming presidential primary after granting him a waiver.
A member of the PDP National Working Committee Presidential and Governorship Screening Committee, Babangida Aliyu, disclosed this in Abuja on Tuesday shortly after the screening exercise conducted by the panel led by Tanimu Turaki.
The development comes amid growing permutations within the opposition party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Reports had earlier indicated that a faction of the PDP loyal to Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, had backed Jonathan’s participation in the presidential race and scheduled him for screening on Tuesday.
Jonathan was also expected to submit his nomination form on Monday but was reportedly absent during the exercise.
Although party officials did not immediately provide details surrounding the waiver, the clearance now paves the way for the former president’s participation in the party’s presidential primary.
The PDP has yet to issue an official statement on the matter as of the time of filing this report.
