The Grand Chief Imam of Ikare-Akoko, Ondo State, Alhaji Abbas Abubakar Muhammad, has called on Muslims and Nigerians at large to promote unity and avoid actions capable of causing division in the country.
Muhammad made the appeal during the Eid-el-Kabir sermon held at the Ikare-Akoko Central Eid praying ground on Wednesday.
The Islamic cleric said one of the core lessons of Eid-el-Kabir was the importance of unity, peaceful coexistence and steadfastness in the teachings of Allah.
According to him, communities can only achieve meaningful development when residents work together in harmony and mutual understanding.
He stressed the need for collective contributions from all segments of society, including scholars, elders, youths and women, toward nation-building and community development.
“Our communities require the knowledge of scholars, the wisdom of elders, the strength of youths and the active participation of women to achieve growth and stability,” he said.
Muhammad urged the younger generation to uphold faith, moral values and good conduct in order to build a peaceful and prosperous society.
He also advised Nigerians to make sincerity, cooperation and good intentions the foundation of their relationships while avoiding acts capable of creating disunity.
The cleric further charged residents to support government efforts aimed at improving security across Ondo State and the country.
He described security as one of the greatest blessings bestowed on humanity, noting that no society could thrive in the absence of peace and safety.
“We pray Allah grants peace, stability and progress to our land and gives leaders the wisdom to govern in ways that benefit the people,” he stated.
Muhammad maintained that ensuring security should be regarded as a collective responsibility requiring vigilance, obedience to the law and cooperation with relevant authorities.
The Grand Chief Imam also commended Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for reopening the Ikare Central Mosque and Eid praying ground after years of closure.
The mosque and prayer ground were shut in October 2022 by the administration of former Governor Rotimi Akeredolu following a crisis in the community.
