The Action Democratic Party has elected Ambassador Aliyu Bin Abbas, founder of the National Youth Alliance, as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
Abbas emerged as the party's flag bearer at the ADP national convention held in Abuja in the early hours of Saturday.
His emergence was announced after the conclusion of the convention, with delegates and supporters reportedly celebrating the outcome.
In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Okpani Jacob Onjewu Dickson, the former aide to ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar described his nomination as the beginning of a new chapter in Nigeria's political landscape.
Reacting to his victory, Abbas said his candidacy represented more than a personal achievement, stressing that it reflected the aspirations of a new generation seeking transformative leadership and broader inclusion in governance.
He pledged commitment to national development, economic growth and policies aimed at empowering young people and women across the country.
According to him, Nigeria is at a critical point in its history and requires leaders capable of uniting citizens behind a shared vision of progress and prosperity.
"This development is not just a political milestone; it is a signal that a new generation is ready to contribute meaningfully to nation-building. We are committed to fostering inclusive governance, economic transformation and opportunities for all Nigerians," he said.
The ADP candidate also called on Nigerians across ethnic, religious and political divides to support a collective agenda focused on justice, national unity and sustainable development.
Abbas expressed confidence that his emergence would galvanise support for a movement aimed at redefining leadership and governance in the country.
He added that details of his campaign blueprint, policy priorities and nationwide mobilisation plans would be unveiled in the coming months.
The National Youth Alliance, founded by Abbas, is a youth-focused movement advocating increased participation of young people and women in leadership and decision-making processes.
His emergence adds to the growing list of aspirants positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
