Former Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress, citing recent political developments within the party in Delta State.
Omo-Agege announced his resignation in a letter addressed to the chairman of APC Orogun Ward 2 in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
The former senator said his decision followed extensive consultations with political associates, supporters and stakeholders across Delta Central.
According to him, the prevailing situation within the APC no longer aligns with his political aspirations and the interests of his constituents.
“I will not remain a sitting duck in a party where I cannot advance the interests of Delta Central, Delta State and Nigeria,” he stated.
Omo-Agege expressed appreciation to the APC for the opportunity given to him to serve as Deputy President of the 9th Senate, while wishing the party success in its future engagements.
He also requested that his name be removed from all party membership records, registers and communication platforms.
The former deputy senate president affirmed that his priority remained the pursuit of development and effective representation for the people of Delta Central and the country at large.
He added that he would continue to pursue his political objectives outside the ruling party.
Omo-Agege’s resignation comes months after he contested the APC senatorial primary for Delta Central but lost to the incumbent senator, Ede Dafinone.
