The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Felix Morka, has described Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, as the political leader of the party in the state.

Morka, however, clarified that the conduct and management of party primaries remain the exclusive responsibility of the party’s National Working Committee.

The APC spokesman stated this on Friday while speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today amid growing discussions surrounding the party’s primary elections in Rivers State.

According to him, political activities ahead of the elections have generated speculation and misinformation, urging party members and stakeholders to allow due process to take its course.

“This is a political season, and it is a season of a lot of talk, sometimes speculative and sometimes outright false,” he said.

Morka maintained that governors traditionally serve as leaders of the party in their respective states, including Rivers State.

“The leader of the party is the governor of Rivers State. The governor is the leader of our party in all the states, not just in Rivers State,” he stated.

He stressed, however, that governors do not control the party’s primary election process, insisting that such powers are vested solely in the APC National Working Committee.

According to him, the NWC remains the constitutionally recognised organ responsible for organising and supervising party primaries across the country.

“It has the authority to conduct the primaries and not the governors. The governors have never conducted any election for our party,” Morka added.

The APC spokesman also disclosed that committees set up by the party in Rivers and other states were already carrying out their assignments and reporting to the party’s national headquarters.

His comments come amid internal political tensions and debates over the conduct of APC primaries in Rivers State ahead of the 2027 elections.
