The Federal Government has commenced the implementation of a 30-day visa-free entry policy for citizens of Rwanda visiting Nigeria.
The development was announced on Friday by the Nigeria Immigration Service following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s declaration during the Africa CEO Forum held in Kigali.
According to the immigration agency, the policy was introduced as a reciprocal gesture following similar concessions granted to Nigerians by the Rwandan government.
The NIS disclosed that all necessary arrangements had been concluded to ensure immediate implementation of the directive across the country’s entry points.
Under the arrangement, Rwandan nationals are permitted to enter Nigeria without a visa for a period not exceeding 30 days for lawful activities such as tourism, business, and official engagements.
The agency, however, clarified that visitors intending to stay beyond the approved duration would be required to obtain the appropriate visa through Nigerian diplomatic missions or the Nigeria e-Visa platform.
It further stated that airports, land borders, and seaports across the country had been directed to enforce the new policy in line with the presidential directive.
The NIS described the initiative as a reflection of the growing diplomatic and bilateral relationship between Nigeria and Rwanda.
According to the Service, the move is also expected to promote intra-African mobility, tourism, and economic cooperation in line with broader continental integration goals.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to facilitating safe, orderly, and lawful migration while supporting the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu administration.
