Fresh anxiety has gripped residents of Oyo State following the emergence of another video showing victims of the recent abduction of teachers and pupils in Oriire Local Government Area pleading for urgent rescue.
In the latest footage, a nursing mother identified as Temitope, said to be a staff member of First Baptist Church School, Ogbomoso, appealed emotionally to the Federal Government and the Oyo State Government to secure their release from captivity.
Holding her baby while speaking in the video, the distraught woman recounted how gunmen stormed the school and whisked away staff members and pupils during the attack.
She called on President Bola Tinubu and Governor Seyi Makinde to intervene swiftly to save the victims.
“I am Temitope from Ibadan. I work at First Baptist Church School, Ogbomoso. Yesterday, some armed men invaded our school and abducted both teachers and students. We are pleading with the government and the church to help us regain our freedom,” she said tearfully.
The latest video surfaced barely days after another victim, Mrs Rachael Alamu, the principal of Community High School, Esiele, released a similar appeal following the abduction of seven teachers and 39 pupils in the area.
Alamu had urged the Federal Government, Governor Makinde and the Christian Association of Nigeria to intensify efforts toward rescuing the captives unharmed.
Meanwhile, security agencies said rescue operations were ongoing, with combined teams of police and military personnel combing forest areas around the Old Oyo National Park in search of the abductors.
It was gathered that the attackers had invaded the schools last Friday, killing an assistant headmaster, Joel Adesiyan, during the assault before fleeing with several motorcycles and the abducted victims.
