Operatives of the Kebbi State Hisbah Board have arrested a man allegedly discovered hiding inside a “Ghana Must-Go” bag at the residence of a married woman in the Badariya area of Birnin Kebbi.
The arrest was confirmed by the board’s Director of Sharia, Sirajo Kamba, in a statement issued in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday.
Kamba explained that residents of the community alerted the Hisbah Board at about 12:15am on Monday after allegedly spotting the man entering the woman’s residence under suspicious circumstances.
According to him, the residents suspected that the visit was linked to an illicit relationship considered contrary to Islamic teachings and subsequently reported the matter to the authorities.
He said officers of the board were immediately deployed to the scene to investigate the complaint.
Kamba noted that when the operatives arrived at the house and requested permission to conduct a search, the woman reportedly denied that anyone else was inside the residence.
He, however, said the woman later consented to a thorough search of the apartment, during which the suspect was allegedly found concealed inside a “Ghana Must-Go” bag.
The Hisbah official further stated that preliminary investigations pointed to an alleged romantic affair between the pair.
He added that both suspects reportedly confessed to the allegations during interrogation and would be charged before a Sharia court for further legal proceedings.
The incident came days after the Kano State Hisbah Board arrested two women and a fish seller over alleged involvement in immoral acts in the state.
The Kano Hisbah spokesperson, Auwalu Sheshe, had disclosed that the suspects were apprehended inside a room where they were allegedly preparing to engage in illicit activities.
