No fewer than 100 schools across Ondo State converged on the Federal University of Technology, Akure for the Ondo Central qualifying round of KIDSCON 2026, a children-focused academic and talent development programme.
The event, which attracted pupils and students from primary and secondary schools, featured competitions in academics, creativity and talent exhibitions, with eight schools eventually securing qualification for the grand finale slated for December.
At the end of the competition, Great Prints International School emerged winner in the secondary school category, while Fiwasaye Grammar School came second and Greater Tomorrow Secondary School placed third. Preston International College and St. Louis Grammar School also qualified for the final stage.
In the primary school category, Pathway Primary School clinched the top position, while Lincoln Montessori School finished second and Kinder School came third to book places in the grand finale.
Speaking during the event, the Convener of KIDSCON, Funmi Bankole, described the initiative as a platform created to celebrate children, promote creativity and instill moral values among young learners.
According to her, the programme was designed to give talented children visibility and confidence, noting that many gifted pupils often lack opportunities to showcase their abilities.
She commended the Minister of Interior, Bunmi Tunji-Ojo, for supporting the initiative, adding that the intervention had helped expand the competition beyond a single location to accommodate wider participation across senatorial districts in the state.
Bankole added that the organisers planned to extend the programme to riverine and hard-to-reach communities, stressing that KIDSCON was aimed at promoting unity, teamwork and social integration among children. The event ended with the presentation of trophies to winners and consolation prizes to raffle draw participants.
