The widow of a teacher reportedly killed during the recent abduction attack on schools in Oyo State has appealed to the Federal Government and security agencies to recover her husband’s remains for proper burial.
Mrs Mary Oyedokun made the plea following the death of her husband, Michael Oyedokun, a teacher at Community High School, Ahoro-Esiele, who was abducted alongside pupils and other teachers during coordinated attacks on schools in Oriire Local Government Area.
The attacks, which occurred earlier this week, reportedly targeted Community High School, L.A. Primary School, Esiele, and Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota.
Reports indicated that no fewer than 46 persons, including pupils, teachers and other residents, were kidnapped during the invasion.
Public outrage trailed the incident after a viral video allegedly showing the killing of the teacher surfaced online, sparking condemnation from civil society groups, celebrities and concerned Nigerians.
In an emotional video sighted on Friday, the deceased teacher’s widow, who spoke in Yoruba language, appealed passionately to the authorities to help retrieve her husband’s corpse.
“I am pleading with the government to help recover my husband’s body. I want him to be buried properly and have a resting place we can always visit,” she said tearfully.
Meanwhile, security operatives are said to have intensified rescue efforts to secure the release of the remaining victims still being held by the abductors.
The Oyo State Government had earlier assured residents that both military and non-military strategies were being deployed to rescue the captives safely.
President Bola Tinubu also condemned the killing, describing the attack as cruel and unacceptable, while assuring Nigerians that security agencies were working to rescue those still in captivity and bring the perpetrators to justice.
