An ally of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, Ogundu Kingsley Chinda, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State.
Chinda was declared winner of the party’s governorship primary on Thursday evening after the collation of results from the 23 local government areas of the state.
The announcement was made at the APC secretariat by the Chairman of the Governorship Screening Committee, Bitrus Kwamoti.
Kwamoti disclosed that Chinda secured a total of 268,497 votes to clinch the party’s ticket ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
He described the primary election as peaceful and orderly, commending party members and officials for their conduct during the exercise.
The committee chairman noted that the process was successfully conducted across the wards and local government areas without major disruptions.
Chinda’s emergence is expected to reshape the political landscape in Rivers State, especially amid the growing influence of Wike within the state’s political structure.
Party supporters who gathered at the secretariat celebrated the outcome shortly after the official declaration of the results.
