The camp of a former Minister of Power and All Progressives Congress governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Bayo Adelabu, has dismissed allegations linking his Personal Assistant, Ajiboye Sangogade, to the recent abduction of Adelabu’s younger sister and her twin sons.
The camp described the allegations as false, malicious and politically motivated, warning those behind the claims to desist or face legal consequences.
In a statement issued on Wednesday in Ibadan, Adelabu’s media aide, Femi Awogboro, said attempts to connect Sangogade with the kidnapping incident were baseless and unsupported by available evidence.
According to him, the Oyo State Police Command did not mention Sangogade as a suspect during its investigation or briefing on the case, contrary to claims circulating in some quarters.
Awogboro said, “Certain individuals have been spreading unfounded rumours alleging that Sangogade masterminded the abduction of Adelabu’s sister and her children. These allegations are entirely false and intended to tarnish his reputation.”
He maintained that the police had publicly provided details of the case and those arrested, noting that Sangogade’s name did not feature among the suspects linked to the crime.
The aide accused those spreading the allegations of pursuing political interests and attempting to discredit Adelabu’s associate through misinformation.
He further alleged that the same group had previously circulated claims that Sangogade was being positioned to secure the APC ticket for the Ibadan North Federal Constituency by-election, a development that never materialised.
Awogboro said the police account of the kidnapping had exposed the allegations as unfounded, insisting that there was no evidence connecting Sangogade to the incident.
He described Sangogade as a reputable public figure whose integrity should not be undermined by what he termed fabricated stories.
The camp warned that any further effort to damage the aide’s image would be resisted and that legal steps could be taken against individuals found to be responsible for the allegations.
The abduction case attracted widespread attention after gunmen reportedly intercepted a vehicle conveying Adelabu’s sister, Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, and her twin sons, Peter and Paul, in the Elewura-Challenge area of Ibadan South-West Local Government Area.
The victims were later rescued during a police operation that led to the arrest of suspected members of the kidnapping syndicate.
The Oyo State Police Command subsequently announced the arrest of four suspects and the recovery of firearms, ammunition, a vehicle allegedly used during the operation and other exhibits linked to the crime.
The development has sparked calls for caution against the spread of unverified claims as investigations into the kidnapping continue.
