The Executive Chairman of Akoko South-West Local Government Area of Ondo State, Hon. Ezekiel Ayorinde Ajana, has received two national awards in recognition of his contributions to grassroots development and public service.
Ajana, popularly known as Ayo Ajana, was honoured with the Nigerian Local Government Excellence Award (LOGEXA 2026) and the Distinguished Public Service Award in Grassroots Development presented by the Bureau of Public Service Reforms.
The LOGEXA award was presented on June 18 at the NAF Conference Centre in Abuja, while the BPSR award was conferred on June 23 during an event held at the Nicon Luxury Hotel, also in the Federal Capital Territory.
According to organisers, the awards recognised outstanding performance in local governance, service delivery and community development.
In a letter signed by the Director-General of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms, Dr Ibrahim Arabi, the agency stated that the award was part of activities marking the 2026 United Nations Public Service Day celebration.
The bureau explained that Ajana emerged through a merit-based selection process that involved nominations, stakeholder consultations and assessment of performance indicators.
The council chairman's administration was credited with executing projects in water supply, road rehabilitation, social welfare, education and institutional development across communities in the local government area.
Among the projects highlighted were the rehabilitation of water facilities in Supare-Akoko, Ayegunle-Oka and Oba-Akoko, as well as road grading and bridge construction projects in several communities.
The administration was also recognised for welfare programmes targeted at elderly residents, widows and other vulnerable groups, alongside educational support initiatives for students.
Speaking after receiving the awards, Ajana dedicated the honours to residents of Akoko South-West and pledged to sustain efforts aimed at improving living conditions across the council area.
He described the recognition as a motivation to do more in the areas of infrastructure development, social welfare and community advancement.
Ajana also appreciated Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, for his support, noting that the achievements recorded by his administration were made possible through collaboration with relevant stakeholders and the people of the local government area.
