BREAKING: Army reshuffles top command, appoints new GOCs, senior officers


The Nigerian Army has carried out a sweeping redeployment of senior officers, announcing new appointments across its operational, administrative and training formations in a move aimed at reinforcing national security operations.

The exercise, approved by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, affects General Officers Commanding, brigade commanders, commandants of military institutions and principal staff officers.

The Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, disclosed the development in a statement on Saturday, describing the postings as part of ongoing efforts to improve operational efficiency and enhance the Army's response to evolving security threats across the country.

Under the new postings, Major General WM Dangana has been appointed General Officer Commanding 3 Division of the Nigerian Army and Commander of Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, taking over from Major General EF Oyinlola.

Similarly, Major General EI Okoro will assume duty as General Officer Commanding 6 Division and Land Component Commander of Joint Task Force South-South Operation DELTA SAFE, replacing Major General EE Emeka.

The Army also named Major General JR Lar as Commander, Army Headquarters Garrison, while Brigadier General OM Oyekola was appointed Acting Military Secretary (Army). Brigadier General I Waziri will continue in his role as Chief of Staff in the Office of the Chief of Army Staff.

As part of the restructuring, Brigadier General IB Buhari was posted to Headquarters 63 Brigade as Commander, while Brigadier General K Rabiu will head Headquarters 31 Artillery Brigade.

In another strategic appointment, Major General SA Emmanuel was named Commander of the Nigerian Army Space Command, a move the Army said reflects its growing commitment to technology-driven security operations and emerging domains of warfare.

The statement also announced the appointment of Major General O Adegbe as Director of Intelligence and Security at the Defence Headquarters.

Within the Army's training and professional development institutions, Major General KE Chigbu was appointed Deputy Commandant of the National Defence College, while Major General SD Makolo will serve as Commandant of the Nigerian Army Armour School.

Major General SO Adejimi has been posted as Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport, while Major General FS Etim takes over as Chief of Training at the Headquarters, Training and Doctrine Command.

Also affected by the redeployment is Brigadier General U Ahmad, who has been appointed Commandant of Depot Nigerian Army, Zaria.

The Army further announced the appointment of Major General KO Ukandu as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Post Housing Development Limited, while Major General AI Allison will head Defence Properties Limited as Managing Director.

According to the statement, Lieutenant General Shaibu urged the newly appointed officers to justify the confidence reposed in them through exemplary leadership, professionalism and dedication to duty.

He also charged them to remain committed to safeguarding Nigeria's sovereignty, protecting the nation's territorial integrity and supporting civil authorities in maintaining peace and security.

The Army reaffirmed its commitment to its ongoing transformation agenda, noting that the latest appointments form part of broader efforts to build a professional, combat-ready and people-focused force capable of addressing current and future security challenges.
