The Federal University Oye-Ekiti has suspended three officials, including the Students’ Union Government President, over allegations of unauthorised collection of money from students.
The affected officials are the Director of the Directorate of Educational Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Mr Olanrewaju Patrick Ogunjobi; the Deputy Dean of Student Affairs and Support Services, Dr Banji Rildwan Olaleye; and the SUG President, Mr James Iyanuoluwa Adio.
The university disclosed the suspensions in a statement issued on Wednesday by its Registrar, Mr Mufutau A. Ibrahim.
According to the institution, the action followed a petition submitted by a Students’ Union official alleging that N1,000 was collected from each 100-level student for practical sessions organised under the directorate.
The registrar stated that the university management set up a preliminary fact-finding committee to investigate the allegations in line with the principles of fairness and natural justice.
He noted that all individuals named in the petition appeared before the committee and were given the opportunity to defend themselves.
The university alleged that Ogunjobi authorised and collected the N1,000 fee from students without approval from the Senate, management, or through the institution’s approved payment channels.
It further alleged that Olaleye participated in the collection process despite occupying a key position in the Student Affairs structure.
The management also linked the SUG president to the controversy, alleging that he was indirectly involved in the handling of the funds.
According to the statement, allegations before the committee indicated that Adio participated in the sharing of an initial sum and later requested a refund, which allegedly led to the transfer of N700,000 into his personal bank account.
FUOYE said the trio would remain on suspension pending the conclusion of disciplinary proceedings.
The university maintained that the allegations run contrary to its policy against corruption, extortion and abuse of office, stressing that it would not condone acts capable of tarnishing its reputation.
Reaffirming its commitment to transparency and accountability, the management vowed to uphold discipline and protect students from any form of financial exploitation within the institution.
