The Chairman of Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, Taiwo Adegoroye, has dismissed reports alleging that schools in the council area had been shut over security concerns.
Adegoroye described the reports as false and misleading, stating that neither his office nor the local government administration issued any directive ordering the closure of schools.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by his Special Assistant on New Media, Olatunji Babatunde, the chairman said the information emanated from rumours and unverified claims that were amplified on some media and online platforms.
He urged residents to disregard the reports, noting that normal academic activities should continue across the local government.
“The report did not originate from my office and should be disregarded by members of the public. No directive has been issued by the Odigbo Local Government administration for the closure of schools,” Adegoroye said.
The council boss commended residents and stakeholders who sought clarification before reacting to the reports, describing their actions as responsible and commendable.
According to him, he had personally contacted security chiefs in the local government to address the rumours and ensure that peace and order were maintained in the area.
“Odigbo remains peaceful and secure. Students, teachers, parents and other residents should go about their lawful activities without fear. The safety and security of our people remain a top priority of this administration and the Ondo State Government,” he added.
Adegoroye also appreciated Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for efforts aimed at strengthening security across the state, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
