An Akure Magistrate’s Court has ordered the remand of two men, Nasiru Usman and Abdulrahman Sanni, over allegations of burglary and theft involving property valued at about N3 million.
The defendants were arraigned by the Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun Corps, on a five-count charge bordering on burglary and stealing.
Prosecuting counsel, T.T. Samuel, told the court that the suspects allegedly committed the offences on May 5, 2026, at Cultural Street along Ondo Road in Akure.
According to the prosecutor, the duo reportedly broke into the residence of one Esther Samuel and made away with a gas cylinder and cooked food valued at N70,000.
Samuel further alleged that the defendants also burgled another residence belonging to Victoria Samuel, carting away household items, foodstuffs, electronic devices, clothing materials and other valuables.
The prosecution said the stolen items, which included mobile phones, cooking utensils, a karaoke player, adire fabrics and several household tools, were valued at approximately N3 million. The offences allegedly contravened relevant provisions of the Criminal Law of Ondo State, 2006.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges, while their counsel, R.T. Boboye, urged the court to admit them to bail, assuring the court that they would provide reliable sureties and attend trial.
In his ruling, Magistrate Damilola Sekoni granted each defendant bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum. However, the suspects were remanded at the Olokuta Correctional Centre after failing to meet the bail conditions. The case was adjourned until July 3, 2026, for hearing.
