The Ondo State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on criminal gangs, dismantling several suspected hideouts during a major security operation in the Ilu-Abo Forest and surrounding communities.
The operation, led by the Commissioner of Police, CP Felix Ohagwu, targeted locations believed to be used by kidnappers, armed robbers and other violent criminals operating within the area.
According to the command, operatives combed identified flashpoints, forest routes and suspected criminal enclaves during the exercise, resulting in the discovery and destruction of makeshift camps allegedly used as operational bases by criminal elements.
The police said the raid was part of ongoing efforts to disrupt criminal activities, restrict the movement of suspected criminals and strengthen security across the state.
Speaking during the operation, Ohagwu said forests and remote locations within Ondo State would no longer be allowed to serve as safe havens for kidnappers and other criminal groups.
He stressed that the command remained committed to intelligence-led and proactive policing aimed at preventing crimes before they occur.
The police commissioner assured residents that security operations would continue across identified crime-prone areas, noting that the command was determined to sustain pressure on criminal networks until they were completely dismantled.
According to him, the exercise aligns with the security strategy of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, aimed at strengthening internal security and tackling violent crimes across the country.
Ohagwu commended officers who participated in the operation for their professionalism and dedication, urging them to maintain the momentum in the fight against crime.
The command also appealed to residents to support security agencies with timely and credible information capable of aiding efforts to protect lives and property in the state.
The development comes amid renewed security concerns in parts of Ondo State, where authorities have stepped up operations against kidnapping and other violent crimes in recent months.
