Residents of Emevor and neighbouring communities in Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State have commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori following the completion of the second phase of the 4.8-kilometre Emevor-Orogun Road.
The commendation came during an inspection of the project by the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, who expressed satisfaction with the quality of work delivered.
Aniagwu said the road project reflects the state government's commitment to expanding infrastructure in rural communities and improving socio-economic activities across the state. According to him, the project has enhanced connectivity and eased movement for residents and businesses in the area.
The commissioner also praised the contractor, Emorock Concepts Limited, for what he described as a high standard of execution, noting that indigenous firms have continued to demonstrate their capacity to handle major infrastructure projects efficiently.
He stated that the project involved extensive engineering work, including earth-moving operations, drainage construction and soil replacement in difficult sections of the road corridor to ensure durability.
Aniagwu disclosed that specialised equipment was deployed to tackle challenging terrain, while critical components such as earthworks and stone-base construction were completed ahead of the peak rainy season, helping to sustain progress on the project.
While expressing satisfaction with the overall quality of work, he directed the contractor to address minor issues, including the clearing of blocked drainage channels, replacement of a few damaged concrete slabs and completion of outstanding drainage discharge structures.
The commissioner warned residents against obstructing drainage systems, stressing that such actions could undermine the lifespan of the road and increase the risk of flooding.
He added that road markings and other finishing touches would be completed before the project is presented for commissioning by the governor.
Residents who spoke during the inspection described the road as a transformative project that had significantly improved transportation and accessibility within the communities. Aniagwu recounted the experience of a visually impaired resident who expressed appreciation for the improved condition of the road, saying it had made movement easier for road users.
Speaking on behalf of the contractor, Project Director, Engr. Oghale Agelebe, thanked the state government and host communities for their support. He assured that all observations raised during the inspection would be addressed promptly ahead of the project's inauguration.
Agelebe noted that despite the difficult terrain, the project was successfully completed within schedule through the cooperation of the government and residents, adding that the road would deliver lasting benefits to the communities it serves.
