48-year-old man killed in Oyo bush attack, wife escapes

A 48-year-old man, Peter Baba Danasin, has been killed by suspected assailants while travelling with his wife through a bush path in the Igbojaye area of Oyo State.

The incident reportedly occurred around 4pm on Tuesday as the couple journeyed from their residence in the Budo Seweje area of the state.

The assailants were said to have emerged from the bush and attacked the couple, leaving Danasin with severe machete wounds.

According to details released by counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, the victim’s wife managed to flee from the scene during the attack.

Danasin, however, reportedly sustained deep cuts on different parts of his body and died at the scene from the injuries.

A police team subsequently moved to the area, recovered the victim’s remains and deposited the body at a morgue.

Confirming the incident, the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Alayande, said the command had commenced investigation into the killing.

Alayande, who spoke with our correspondent on Thursday, said efforts were underway to track down the suspects responsible for the attack.

“The story is true, and efforts are on to arrest the fleeing suspects,” the police spokesman said.

The latest incident has raised fresh concerns over attacks along isolated routes in parts of the state, as security operatives intensify efforts to identify those behind the killing.
